Version 4.13.0 is about one thing: number plates. When you upload a video, the plates in it are found and blurred before the video goes to a channel. You do not have to do anything for that, and your original file is left untouched.
What happens when you upload a video
After the upload the platform looks at every video and covers the plates it finds. Only then are the previews made. So what a channel gets to see and download is the edited version.
- Your untouched file is kept alongside. Nothing is lost.
- The preview shows the blurred version as well.
- The upload form says so, to nobody's surprise.
Note
The detection is a help, not a guarantee. Plates that are close and readable are caught reliably, very small or strongly angled ones can slip through. So keep looking at your footage before you submit it.
Where you can see that a video was edited
- As a submitter: the details of your video say under "Kennzeichen" that the plates were blurred and that your original is kept.
- As a channel operator: open the details of an offer and it says under "Bearbeitet" that the plates that were found were blurred before the video was passed on, together with the note that this is not a guarantee.
That way both sides know what they are looking at.
You decide per video which version goes out
Sometimes the number plate is the whole point of a clip. So you decide for every video which version goes to channels, and you can change that at any time, also long after the upload.
Your video list carries a shield for it, which doubles as the state: filled while the blurred version is the one going out, outlined while the original is. One click switches, after a confirmation.
- The preview is made again, so it always matches the version that goes out.
- Channels that already downloaded the video get a mail asking them to fetch it again, because what they hold is no longer what you want passed on.
- The offer details tell the channel that the version was changed, with the date.
Older videos can be blurred as well
Videos uploaded before this version only carry their original. For them the video list offers a second shield: "Kennzeichen unkenntlich machen". The video is then worked on in the background, which takes a few minutes depending on its length. You hear from us once it is done, your original is kept, and from then on you can switch between the two versions for that video too.
How to switch it off
The blurring is on unless your team decides otherwise. Whoever owns a team finds that decision in their own profile in the "Einstellungen" section under "Kennzeichen unkenntlich machen".
- Open your profile.
- Scroll to the "Einstellungen" section.
- Turn the switch off, or on again.
The decision applies to the whole team and to every video uploaded from then on. Videos that are already being processed keep what applied when they were uploaded, so what happens to a waiting video never changes after the fact.
Smaller things on the side
A video that was edited now carries two files: the blurred version that gets distributed and your original. When videos move to another storage, both are transferred and verified, and when they are removed for good after the retention period, both go. None of this needs your attention; it should just not surprise anyone that a little more space is in use than before.
Your next step
Upload your next video as usual and then open its details. They say whether the plates were edited. If your team does not want that, it takes exactly one switch in the profile, and only once.
